Check all skimmers, strainers and nooks and crannies for leaves and other debris that may be present.
Vacuum and clean the filter.
When all debris is removed, shock the pool to remove dissolved solids.
The most common cause is high chemical concentration or outside contamination due to airborne pollutants, pesticide overspray or fertilizer. Chemicals cannot be easily reduced without expense and negative effects. The only practical solution is to lower the concentration by removing contaminated water and replacing with fresh.
Excessive levels of sanitizer and algaecide may cause a bitter taste. If no algae is present, consider reducing the amount of algaecide used.
