The steel is now finished and rolled back up until an order for a pool comes in. When the order is received, the steel is rolled back out to the proper length for the pool size ordered and cut. This is where an important difference occurs...

The filtration system must have an inlet and an outlet, through the wall. On a less expensive pool, holes are “punched” through the wall for the skimmer and return. This process cuts right through that beautiful finish and rust inhibitor we just applied. This exposes a “raw” edge right where the water flows through, allowing the chemicals in the pool water to eat at the steel from day one. 90% of rusted out pools started here.

Here is a rusted out wall from a 7 year old pool. Notice to the left and right of the rusted area, the wall is rust free and looks as good as it did on day one.

Being an intelligent shopper, you might say that “this stainless steel part is all good and well, but its only 4 feet of the pool and the rest of the wall is still steel. Why not make the whole wall from stainless steel?”
Good question.
The answer is simply it is too expensive. Not many people want to spend $5,000 on a pool wall. Because over 90% of rust through occurs in this one area, it’s really all you need.
